BMX Question – hey guys, I’m looking to get my dad to buy me a complete BMX bike for racing. ?

hey guys, I’m looking to get my dad to buy me a complete BMX bike for racing. I know i want an INTENSE alloy race bike but i’m confused by front sprocket size. I notice Intense comes with a big 43 tooth chain wheel front sprocket but EASTERN seems to come with the real small less tooth front sprocket. What’s better for racing? What’s the difference (advantages/disadvantages) for big .vs. small front sprocket? Your feedback is much appreciated!!! Also, I prefer alloy for the light weight but concerned about rigidity and strength. I’m a 130 lbs 10 year old and questioning whether alloy will hold up to my weight. Maybe i should be shopping chromoly?

first of all if you want a light weight bike you don’t want alloy. look for aluminium its very light and it wont rust. don’t worry about a bike not holding up unless its a tiny 16 inch.
and the eastern sprockets are for stunting to get more clearance you could use them for racing they would be lighter than a 43 tooth unless maybe the 43 tooth is aluminium. if you switch to a smaller eastern like a 25 tooth you might have to get a new freewheel to make your peddling easier. chromoly is lighter than alloy and strong but for racing I would go with aluminium.

I wouldn’t go any smaller than maybe a 39 tooth on the front with a 14 or 15 on the rear, bigger on the front will be harder to get off the line but better on longer faster straights with higher top speed, smaller on the front and you will be able to accelerate very quick but not as much top speed and may be pedalling flat out and not really getting anywhere. If it’s too easy too pedal your pedalling action will start to become choppy and not as smooth and flowing.
