Are we required to wear bike helmets when we go biking?

Question by smart guy: Are we required to wear bike helmets when we go biking?
Or is that just a suggestion. I was told that if we are caught biking without a bike helmet we will get a fine.
I live in Texas. And, when I bike, I usually bike on the sidewalk at a relatively slow speed.

Cyclists Agree: Foldable Bikes Provide Ideal Blend of Easy Travel and Anti-Theft Security

Cyclists Agree: Foldable Bikes Provide Ideal Blend of Easy Travel and Anti-Theft Security

Washington, DC (Vocus) May 13, 2010

Hobby cyclist, Adina Jones is pedaling toward the future of biking; she leads by example as she cruises the city streets on her fast-folding bike. This revolutionary advancement promotes an innovative anti-theft system, which stems from its foldable, easily transportable structure.

“The front wheel comes right off – you can even do it one-handed – and then you open the frame quick release to fold the bike in half; it couldn’t be easier and no tools or instructions are needed,” she said.

Inspired by the ease of travel and transport the folding bikes provide, Jones set out to spread the news with the creation FastFoldingBikes.com.Here, online shoppers may browse through a collection of pavement and mountain bikes manufactured by Montague and Swissbike – all which offer convenient portability and security.

“My friends and I agree that our biggest concern with biking is leaving it outside; locks get broken and bikes get stolen,” Jones said. “Folding bikes are full-sized but can be compacted easily so the cyclist can take it inside and leave their worries at the door.”

The Web site also provides a handful of accessories to enhance one’s biking experience. A bag to store the foldable bike, making it easier to transport, a kickstand and foldable pedals may be purchased. To learn more about the features and functionality of the folding bikes, shoppers are encouraged to visit the site’s newly formulated blog, http://www.FoldableBikeReview.com. This interactive tool will also be used to provide bicycle camping and touring information as well as highlight safety tips.

never allow yourself to be embarassed. You can only try your best. FUCK what anyone else thinks of your time/speed… But anyhoo, try training at higher altitudes or with a snorkel… only allow urself to breath through the snorkel and it will help improve your lungs. And never quit. just ride and ride and when it starts to burn and hurt just ride some more. ur physical stats will improve with your confidence

What store(s) could I buy a gel seat for my bike and some biking gloves?

Question by Red Rum: What store(s) could I buy a gel seat for my bike and some biking gloves?
I’m really into riding my bike this year. I ride miles and miles everyday. I would like to ride even more, but my seat isn’t the most comfortable thing. I’m not sure where I could go to buy a gel seat and maybe some biking gloves. There is a bike store right by my house but its very expensive. Helmets alone are over $ 100.

Should I try looking at another sports store like Dicks or would Target even have what I’m looking for?

Answer by lavalamp3773
The two displacements for the cyclists are:

s1 = 6(t+3)
s2 = 10t

Where t is the time in hours, what you want to find is:

10t = 6(t+3)

So solve for t:

10t = 6t + 18
4t = 18
t = 4.5 hours

E-Bike Conversion Kits are Highlighted on Good Morning America

E-Bike Conversion Kits are Highlighted on Good Morning America

Electric Beach Cruiser

Lambertville, NJ (PRWEB) May 26, 2010

National Bike to Work Day brought much needed coverage to the idea of using bicycles as an alternate form of transportation. E-bikes in particular got a boost from GMA’s Sam Champion who says “E-bikes are not cheating because we’re talking about using a bike for more than exercise…” During the broadcast of Good Morning America, headlined by the Jonas Brothers, Jason Kraft of E-BikeKit™ continued to press the relevance of the electric bike to the American commuter by reminding them of the 0 carbon emissions and the cost savings of about $ 1400 a year.

See Good Morning America’s coverage here.

The complete E-BikeKit system includes a wheel with a high quality hub motor, a battery and all the necessary components to convert your bike to electric. The system is engineered to comply with federal guidelines so it requires no insurance or licensing in most states. The price of entry is also getting lower; full systems start at just $ 598 making them accessible to most of the American work force.

No other form of transportation offers the convenience and freedom that an electric bike does. Typically a car commuter needs to make car payments, buy gas, insurance, oil changes and parking. For all of that expense they are rewarded with traffic jams and congestion. All of that disappears when you ride an e-bike. The cost of ownership is just pennies a day and parking is never an issue. The electric motor makes pedaling easier giving more people the ability to enjoy the health benefits of biking to work and that’s just part of it. In 2009 50% of household trips were less than 3 miles in length (2009 National Household Travel Survey, Bureau of Labor and Statistics); the e-bike rider can make short work of those local trips and soak in some sun while they’re at it.

Established in 2008 the E-BikeKit™ company provides a high quality electric bike conversion system that will make bicycle commuting a real possibility for many people. Collaborating with experts in the fields of cycling, engineering, electronics and EV Battery solutions the E-BikeKit™ company has molded a finished product of the highest quality. The E-BikeKit™ is proving to be the best alternative to expensive electric bikes currently being unveiled in the United States. E-BikeKit’s goal is to bring the electric bike to the mainstream empowering people of all ages and physical abilities to go green and commute clean.
