good bike for cross country racing?
i’m looking for a good cross country race bike. my budget is 2000 dollares. i want a light bike that climbs like a goat and decends decently. i will be doing fire roads and single track. steep up hill and technical downhill. i want something durable so i don’t have to buy a new bike every week.
I’ve repeatedly heard good things about Gary Fishers. If his system of geometry fits you, then go for it. The real trick is to find a bike that fits you best. A bike that doesn’t fit well won’t do you any good. Most bikes in that price range should last. A free-ride bike won’t help you much since they weigh too much. Some full suspension frames climb exceedingly well while others don’t. Your Local Bike Shop (LBS) is the best place to find out which does what. If you don’t like the answers, find a different shop. Specialized, Cannondale, Gary Fisher, Trek, and Biachi are all reputable manufacturers. They all have slightly different takes. Try each and see what works best for you.
There are many good XC bikes out there. I’d definitely go with a hard tail for max speed and lightness. One of my favorites is a Specialized Stump Jumper HT.
My bud picked up this bike: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/motobecane/fly_9357_07instocknow.htm
It is super light and fast. We were all surprised with the quality, lightness and speed of it.
