Has anyone out there ever crash on a mountain bike and spit the helmet in half and lived?

I was mountain biking and thought I could go over a 3 feet log. I’ve done it before but this one had thin slime growing on it and I crashed full speed and landed on right side of my head. I thought I had bashed my face in at first but only injuries I had was a cracked right sinus,2 broken ribs, and multitude of scrapes and lacerations.

But when I took my helmet off it was cracked right down the middle!

Has this happened to anyone else?

It was a blast!! I was so proud I showed my helmet to everyone I know.

I want to do it again but don’t want to get killed or paralyzed. Am I crazy that it made me feel great and more alive?

Im 12 years old and on my 2 mile paper route with 35 pounds of papers on one side, i creash riding down my hill in the snow! It is so fun! Have u ever tried to ride through thick ice? It is a blast… you pedal as fast as u can, and you SLOWLY tip over! (
Cant say ive cracked my helmet YET…..

I wonder what my customers think when they see me riding…….. :-O

That’s actually what’s supposed to happen. The helmet absorbs and dissipates the energy of the impact by crushing and breaking apart.
Wouldn’t try to do it again though – helmets don’t protect your neck; and can’t protect you in every crash. It’s normal to feel alive after escaping something like that relatively unscathed, but there are probably better ways to get that feeling.

    Done it a few times.
