How can i start racing my dirt bike?
Once i get my CRF250R im going to want to race it once i get used to it. I want to know roughly how much it could cost. I want to know where i should start. I want to get in depth with racing and possibly get some sponsors. Some info i have 2 years riding experience and i think that i ride pretty well from what my friends have said.I also i read something about taking lessons for racing? also about how much should i practice.
it costs a fair bit to race, but you should go in non competitive racing for a season or until you think your good enough to race in competitive racing.
How much racing will cost depends upon how much you want to put into it. But it usually costs all you have and a bit more if you want to be serious.
You have race entry fees
Set up costs of getting a bike and all the gear.
You need things like a pit tent and bike stands
Extra parts to have with you all the time like inner tubes, spark plugs, extra levers ect.
Fuel to run the bike.
Cost to get to and from the event and a vehicle capable of getting you and all your gear there.
Maintaining the bike costs a lot as parts wear as well as just the everyday costs.
Gear doesn’t last long if you are riding heaps and you have to look good to get sponsors, so you have to update your pants and jersey often. Helmets have to be replaced regularly so they are doing the job they are meant to.
If you only want to ride at a casual level the cost is a lot less and things don’t wear out as quickly.
Most tracks that run races have someone who coaches which would get you started on riding the correct way. If you intend to race seriously then practice whenever you can and also work out to get your fitness up as mx is very tiring.
When you practice on the bike aim to do a number of laps riding and working on technique. Don’t do a couple of laps fast and then the rest half speed and lazy, as that is what you train your body to do in a race. Slowly work your way up to doing more laps in race mode than you would on a race day. That way you are used to it and won’t want to stop for a rest in the middle of it.
