How do I get sponsors if I want to start racing my dirt bike?
I’ve been riding dirt bikes for a little over two years. I absolutely LOVE it=) I would really like to start racing, but I don’t know how to go about getting sponsors. I’m also not really sure where to sign up for racing or when it starts so…any help? thank you!
I have a friend who races in other sports — mountain biking, cross, triathlon, etc. He is sponsored by a number of bike companies and Under Armour. He has a full team together though. He’s in charge of all the teams. I will ask him to try and get you more information, but as far as I know, he goes and makes himself known to the companies. This is what you’ll want to do for yourself if you’re just starting out. I get sponsorships all the time for charity organizations and events and it is a lot of work. You really have to go and sell your story, basically, so that they believe that they’re giving to a legitimate cause. One of the main things that big businesses will want to see is a sponsorship letter so that they know exactly where their money is going and what the benefit is to them. Otherwise, they may be suspicious that you are just taking the money and using it for other causes than to fund your racing.
Ya usually don’t get the sponsors first as its the other way around. Ya race and do well and win some top level races and then send off resume’s for sponsorship with somethin to show them about how good you are and what they are gonna get back from sponsoring you. But till ya have somethin to show most companies won’t be interested. You are betta off trying to get a local store interested in helping you as the only sponsor a person is gonna get at lower level is maybe a small percent off a gear and usables and most people can get that is they bother to ask shops. Racin is expensive and ya have ta be good to attract any decent sponsors and with the way the economy has been not as many riders get freebies now anyway. Places like hookit are just a bit of a con ta get ya sucked into buying from a certain label.
You have to race and constantly win. If you want a full factory sponsorship then you have to race at the Loretta Lynn championship race in Tennessee. That is were most of the profesional racers got noticed. I think it is a little to early to be thinking about sponsors. It took me years to get mine.
