I’m going mountain biking tomorrow, what are the stretches I should be doing?
I’m going to be mountain biking for the next 3 days @ Yosemite National Park.. I don’t want to ride for 1 day and have my muscles tighten and be in bad shape! Can anybody tell me what type of stretches I should be doing to avoid having a strained muscle?
That sounds pretty fun! I would definately stretch the groin muscles, calfs, thighs, abs, arms, ect. I hope you enjoy it!
Make sure you start at a moderate pace to warm up at the beginning of each ride and after an extended rest stop. No stretching before your ride.
After the ride take stock in what muscles you have used. I usually stretch hamstrings, glutes, calves, hip flexors, back, and quads. Make sure to hydrate adequately and taking electrolyte tablets can help avoid cramps if you’re sweating a lot.
you should stretch ur legs and ur back cuzz they’ll be the most used during ur mountain biking trip.
Hamstrings, quads, calfs, groin, lower back, and a little in the shoulders.
Start with toe touches either standing or sitting. If you sit and bring your right foot up so it touches your left knee, then reach with both hands to touch your toes you will get a nice stretch that will get your hams, glutes and lower back at the same time. Hold it for 5 breaths, rest, do it again, then switch feet and repeat.
Another variation on the standing toe touch is to cross your feet and reach down to touch your toes. You will feel it in your outer hamstring and glutes. This also helps with IT band in your knee.
Remember that it’s just as important to stretch after as it is before. Have fun.
