What are some of the best foods to eat before/while and after biking?
Question by John Carter: What are some of the best foods to eat before/while and after biking?
A few friends and I have started mountain biking, (Taking into consideration we bike in Arkansas, where there’s a giant rock every 2 feet) and I’m curious as to what is the best food(s) to eat. We normally make some sorta of sandwich before we go, and we really don’t eat much during, just alot of water. Thanks!

For most strenuous activity, carbohydrates are excellent to eat the night before the activity. This means complex sugar, or pasta and grains, not simple sugars, or any type of sweet you can think of. One of the best thing to have when the morning of the event for breakfast is a bagel with peanut-butter. The carbohydrate protein mix prepares your body for muscle building and spending energy. While biking, don’t eat anything large; usually some snack bars or dry cereals are good. I love Nature Valley if you want to use those. Always keep hydrated; that’s a given, but don;t drink any sports drinks. The added sugar cannot not only tire you out, but it can also lead to craps. Finally, after biking, its a good idea to recharge with chocolate mile and again, many carbohydrates.

Choosing the Right Bike Racks for Cars at the Best Price
Choosing the Right Bike Racks for Cars at the Best Price
There are so numerous pick when it comes to buying bike racks for cars. Here are some beneficial new ideas on how to choice a right bike rack at the best price available today.
There are 3 kind of bike racks for cars these days: the roof rack, the trunk mounted rack (sometimes called strap racks), and the hitch rack.
There are benefits and negatives to each. There are also ways to get your chosen bike rack for a great price-if you know how. You will learn all of that here.
Roof Bike Racks
The positives of a roof rack include: freeing up the rear and trunk area of your car so you can have access to this area. The roof bike rack has also always been status symbol. If you transport your bike on your roof-you are a serious cyclist.
The downside to roof racks is that it can be cumbersome to lift your bike way above your car top at the end of a long ride or grueling race. Because some vehicles are getting taller this can be especially difficult. It can also be a problem when you are tired and forget your bike is up there and drive into a low ceiling area. Ouch!
Another negative to the roof rack system is that a bike transported there creates extra drag for the car and that reduces your gas mileage. Plain and simple, it will cost you more in gas to transport your bike on the roof vs. at the rear of the car.
Trunk Mount Bike Racks
Trunk mounted bike racks can be great for short trips. They make transporting your bike quick and easy. There are many new designs out there today that allow you to attach and detach your bike quickly. Your bike transported at the rear of the car is also protected from debris that can hit and damage a bike on the roof.
On the negative side is the obvious-you lose access to your trunk or rear entry area of your vehicle. That’s why these types of bike carriers are recommended for short trips.
Hitch Mount Bike Racks
Hitch mount bike racks are becoming increasingly popular today-even with serious cyclists. There are some designs that swing out of the way so you can access the rear entry areas of your vehicle. One company has a design that serves a dual function. It can be taken off quickly and used as a bike storage rack in your home or apartment or work.
Of course you need a hitch receiver on your vehicle to use this type of bike carrier it must be either 2 inch or 1.25 inch.
The benefits of hitch racks are similar to the trunk versions-better protection and increased gas mileage. However, they can be more stable and secure than their trunk counterparts.

Using the internet and Google if you know how to search properly, you can compare shop and find who has the best prices for bike racks.

What gear is best for biking in the city?
Question by CityBiker: What gear is best for biking in the city?
I have a mountain bike with three gears and 8 shifts. I’m entirely new to the biking scene in the city and I don’t want to purchase a fixed gear bike. I was wondering if anyone knew some general guidelines for the best gear since I often find myself pedaling relentlessly and not making much speed.
Thanks in advance.

If you ride a hill every day, try going at it with a higher gear each day, see how long you can go up it in that gear.
I don’t know what bike you have, but a turbo trainer is a good investment, so you can train at home if the weather is poor.

There really is many, but if your just starting out you could choose from Diamondback,Haro,DK, & mirraco. Those companys have reasonable prices on most there bikes. You could buy diamond backs a Sports Authority for about $ 200-$ 250. Haro is about the same on some of there models,DK you could find a great bike 6 pack model for about$ 310 on danscomp.com and mirraco has a fivestar option at $ 299 which is great bike also, good luck.
Oh and by the way make sure to look at the top tubes if your under 6ft tall then a 20.5 inch tt would be fine for you.If your above 6 ft look for a 21 inch tt

Best Recumbent Exercise Bike — How To Get Value
Best Recumbent Exercise Bike — How To Get Value
The best recumbent exercise bike for you depends on several factors including how you want to use a bike. You certainly can get a valuable bike for not much money if you know what to inspect for and how to recognize the best values. Securing the very best stationary bike for you may cost less than you may have budgeted. Your budget is a big factor because exercise bikes are machines that can cost more than you might imagine. Based on my ten years of experience pedaling bikes, following are 5 top tips for getting a recumbent bike that will help you reach your weight loss or fitness objectives.
Recumbent bikes let you ride in comfort. That can easily translate to more frequent and longer workouts which are after all the real keys to better results. Tops in attractions to the recumbents are the seat design and seating position. The riding position makes it so most people ride in comfort. Easy to get on and easy on the back, the reclining position makes for a better ride and a less painful experience. That makes for more fitness if the bike gets used more.
One factor to consider when comparing bikes is the general construction of the bike. See, you need a bike with some mass to keep it in place with no rocking and rolling while you ride. Lightweight machines that sway and move likely make it less than a confidence inspiring experience to ride. After all, a rocking bike likely feels like you may get pitched off. Plus lighter bikes often lack the rigid build to make it so they last after hard use. Cheap bikes often self-destruct in a shorter time that you might imagine.
Great workouts don’t necessarily mean long times of riding. often many riders have limited time for workouts and often that means not much gets done. An exercise bike has advantages because it can work many of the major muscle groups very quickly. See, working out on a bike targets the legs, both upper and lower, as well as the muscles of the hips. Those being the larger muscles and also the areas where problems often lie, bike workouts get at the areas often of most concern and do it in an efficient manner. That means you get maximum results in minimum time spent.
In the majority of newer bikes the resistance you work against is an electronic, magnetic system. The pedaling generates the resistance. That’s what you probably want, so check it out. Is the load system quiet? See what owners say about the noise level. Coupled with that quiet drive you get more electronics. This nearly essential part of the best bike for you can control the resistance settings. So what? That’s how you get simulated rides. By varying the resistance over time, the built-in computer makes the bike feel like a real-world ride through varying terrain. That’s another fine way to make riding fun and eliminate boring rides. Most exercise bikes now include computers for riding simulation. The more you pay, generally, the more computer power you get. That translates into more workout routines programmed in and more resistance settings too.
Recumbent exercise bikes range in price from just a small price to big money. Here’s the deal, if you pay too little you are likely throwing your money away. A very cheap bike may have many of the features of a quality bike, but may be so poorly constructed that it is impossible to use. On the other hand, many medium price machines, like the Schwinn 240 Recumbent exercise bike, are very reasonably priced but very high in quality. A very expensive bike will be smooth operating, built to last and will have many built in workout routines and other features. Your best values will be in the mid-priced machines.
I ride Schwinn exercise bikes and have a long-term positive experience with the one I ride. Some other company may offer the best recumbent stationary bike, especially in the higher end price range. But for value, a combination of quality and performance, Schwinn stationary bikes are one of the top options.
Pedal stationary bikes to stay in shape no matter what the time of year or weather. A Schwinn Airdyne bike helps you burn fat with a proven machine.
