Are we required to wear bike helmets when we go biking?
Question by smart guy: Are we required to wear bike helmets when we go biking?
Or is that just a suggestion. I was told that if we are caught biking without a bike helmet we will get a fine.
I live in Texas. And, when I bike, I usually bike on the sidewalk at a relatively slow speed.

What store(s) could I buy a gel seat for my bike and some biking gloves?
Question by Red Rum: What store(s) could I buy a gel seat for my bike and some biking gloves?
I’m really into riding my bike this year. I ride miles and miles everyday. I would like to ride even more, but my seat isn’t the most comfortable thing. I’m not sure where I could go to buy a gel seat and maybe some biking gloves. There is a bike store right by my house but its very expensive. Helmets alone are over $ 100.
Should I try looking at another sports store like Dicks or would Target even have what I’m looking for?

I’m considering switching to biking to work. What should I look for in a bike intended for city traffic?
Question by uncleclover: I’m considering switching to biking to work. What should I look for in a bike intended for city traffic?
With gas going the way it is, I think the fuel-free options are the best ones. I do mass transit, but see people biking all over the place & would like to get in on it. This would be my first serious biking endeavor for almost 20 years.

E+ Electric Bikes Announces New E+ Customs Series Electric Bikes and Launch of Fit-Your-Bike Electric Bike Conversion Program
E+ Electric Bikes Announces New E+ Customs Series Electric Bikes and Launch of Fit-Your-Bike Electric Bike Conversion Program
Dulles, VA (PRWEB) July 1, 2010
E+ Electric Bikes announced today the introduction of the new E+ Customs Series electric bikes for sale. Until now, the E+ electric system has been available on four styles of E+ electric bikes – electric mountain bikes, electric beach cruiser bikes, commuter bikes, and high performance folding electric bikes. “These are great styles, but there are many other attractive styles and designs,” said Jason Seybold, E+ Sales Manager. “With the new E+ Customs Series, there are 19 additional styles and designs to choose from, all from well known bike manufacturers such as Trek, Cannondale, Ellsworth, Schwinn, and Day6. And if you’re interested in another frame design, we can do that too,” said Seybold.
Along with a new and expanded frame variety, pricing has become more flexible as well. “The E+ Customs Series allows us to greatly expand our price offerings, with fourteen models now in the two thousand dollar range. This is about what you would pay for many of the 250-500 watt offerings now appearing on the market. Why pay so much for an underpowered disappointment when you can have the luxury and power of an E+ electric bike with your favorite frame style, like an E+ Schwinn electric bike and an E+ Trek mountain bike?” said Seybold.
In addition to the Customs Series, E+ also launched the new Fit-Your-Bike Electric Bike Conversion Program today. Through the program, bikers with non-electric bikes can easily have their favorite bikes converted into electric bicycles by simply shipping their favorite bike to E+. The full featured E+ electric bike conversion kits can be installed on most bike frames. “E+ Flex Kits fit right into the E+ concept of making e-bikes exciting, reliable, and accessible,” said Seybold. “There’s no need to settle for something clunky or underpowered, or even for a color you don’t like. With E+ electric bike kits, you can have the style, color, features, and performance you want. No compromises.”
The design of the E+ system makes such a range of styles possible. The electric bicycle motor and battery are integrated into the center of the rear and front wheels of the bike. ‘”We remove the standard wheels and replace them with E+ front and rear wheels, then add the necessary cables running along or inside the frame, and the computer controller and display,” said Ric Ruggiero, E+ Production Manager. “No one else can do that – it opens a whole new world of style and design possibilities.”
The E+ electric propulsion system (motor, battery, computer controller and display) produces by far the world’s best electric bicycles and fastest electric bikes. It offers the power people need for an enjoyable eBike experience (750 watts or 1000 watts), and the quality and reliability people expect. In addition, it has features that most people don’t expect, like cruise control and fitness exercise mode.
To introduce the E+ Customs Series and the new Fit-Your-Bike Electric Bike Conversion program, E+ is offering for a limited time $ 150 off the purchase of any E+ Customs Series electric bike or free installation of an electric bike conversion kit onto a bike of your choice.
All E+ products are designed, assembled, and tested in the USA. “E+ is not an overpriced, underpowered collection of other peoples’ components,” says Ruggiero.” We designed the entire system here, and we assemble and test every one here. We’re proud of that. And the result is incomparable performance, no noise, and no pollution.”
E+ Customs Series electric bikes and E+ electric bike kits are available from authorized E+ electric bike dealers nationwide or direct from Electric Motion Systems, the makers of E+. Check the E+ Electric Bikes website for details.

Easy Access, Capacity and Security Combine in New Rainier Bike Rack
Easy Access, Capacity and Security Combine in New Rainier Bike Rack
Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 14, 2008
StowAway2 Cargo Carriers is proud to announce the release of its new Rainier Bike Rack. “The Rainier incorporates everything that our customers have been telling us they want in a full-function bike rack – not just a place for their bikes but also room for their bike gear,” said StowAway2 President Jim Stewart. “The Rainier lets you have it all: easy access to the rear of your vehicle, a place for your extra gear, and the security features that you expect from a premium bike rack.”
The Rainier stands above the pack thanks to its versatility. StowAway2′s patented and rugged swingaway frame enables the Rainier to swing out for clear access to the rear of your vehicle — even when the bike rack and cargo basket are fully loaded. The frame pivots a full 180 degrees for total clearance on both liftgates and van doors. Best of all, the racks are interchangeable: the bike post can be removed for those trips where the bikes don’t come along and the cargo rack can be removed if you only need to bring the bikes.
Like its name suggests, the Rainier offers ample room for all your bike helmets, tools and other gear. Its cargo rack measures 53″ x 25″ x 5″ and it can carry up to 200 pounds (bikes and gear). The Rainier mounts on all Class III/IV 2″ hitch receivers, making it the perfect addition for most SUVs, minivans, trucks and RVs.
The Rainier wouldn’t be complete without all the extra touches that you expect from a high-end bike rack. “We’ve added a keyed-alike security cable and hitch lock to prevent theft and included our popular Hitch-Coupling Tightener to eliminate hitch wobble,” said Stewart. “With these additions, we think the Rainier is the most functional, versatile and secure bike rack available today.”
The StowAway2 Rainier Bike Rack is priced at $ 499.00 and is available from StowAway2.com and several online retailers, including FastTrackRacks.com. To view an online image gallery of the StowAway2 Rainier, go to: StowAway2 Rainier Showroom

Does biking on an exercise bike tone your body as much as running does?
Question by ***-Holly-***: Does biking on an exercise bike tone your body as much as running does?
I used to run on a treadmill for an hour, but it broke. I can’t afford to fix it right now and I don’t want to run outside because its FREEZING, literally. Will biking on an indoor exercise bike be just as good (in terms of toning) as running?

Depends how hard you push yourself, but in my experience it isn’t as good.

What bike stem degree should I use for mountain biking?
Question by Yair S: What bike stem degree should I use for mountain biking?
I have a Giant mountain bike that has a stem that is low. I feel like a stem that is higher would be better when riding downhill. My question is, what is the usual stem degree for mountain biking? I live by the desert and some trails are very steep.
Thanks in advance.

Answer by MadMonkey
That’s an impossible question to answer in a web forum. You need to have someone look at your position on the bike and then recommend what stem reach and angle are best for your riding style, physiology, and application. Go to a good shop and tell them what you’re looking for. If you buy the stem there they might even put it on for free.
